About JCGS

History of Jain Center of Greater Sacramento

The Jain Center of Greater Sacramento (JCGS) has been established since 1992 and like most organizations, started with 20+ families doing bhakti at home. It steadily grew over the years and during that time, utilized many different buildings to congregate and pray together.

In 2011, JCGS, via donations from members, purchased its first property in Elk Grove, CA. This property, which included a house for dining and a separate building for darshan, was the home of JCGS for nearly a dozen years.

Foundation of New Derasar- “A New Beginning”

As the Jain community continued to grow in Sacramento, JCGS realized the need for a bigger property to serve the needs of the today and future generations for the coming decades. Thus, in 2022, JCGS acquired ~15,000 sq. ft property at 10375 Old Placerville Rd, Sacramento CA and moved its base of operations.

The new building has ample space for religious activities, dining hall, multipurpose hall for lectures and cultural activities, rooms for meetings and Pathshala classes, bathrooms, shower, parking, and other facilities to serve the growing community’s needs. The JCGS is now poised to further the spread of Jainism in the Greater Sacramento area and beyond for generations to come with this new endeavor.

With God’s grace and under the guidance and blessing of Gachchadipati Acharyadev Pujyapad Shrimad Vijay Rajyashsurishwarji Maharaj, our dream came true and JCGS was very fortunate to have the grand “Bhagwan Pravesh” event in October 2022. JCGS has made progress by leaps and bounds since then. The Community has stepped forward to open the temple daily for aarti and mangal divo since 2023. There is “Bhakti Bhavna” night every Friday. Sundays are dedicated for various religious events and Pathshala classes for kids. JCGS has been fortunate to host various Jain scholars from India and USA. JCGS celebrated Chha Gau Bhaav Yatra, Mahavir Janam Kalyanak Quiz, and 3-day Shibir for the first time in 2023.

Today, we have 100+ registered families. This temple located on U.S. 50 will continue to be a pious place of worship for the Jains in the Greater Sacramento Area for generations to come.
